How to play Aces & Eights 5 Hand
In this game, the aim is to score points by taking as many cards as possible to be equal to, or one more than, the number of points shown on the player's selected card. The ace is worth 1 point, 2-9 are worth face value, and a 10, Jack, Queen or King ('court card') are each worth 10 points.
The first player chooses a card and sets it face up in the middle of the table. The other players then take it in turn to either take the current card or pass. If they choose to take the card, they must then set another card face up beside it. When both players have either taken or passed the current card, the player left with the highest valued card wins that round and scores a point.
If both players have picked cards of equal value (e.g., two 5s), then both players score a point and another round begins. The first player to reach 7 or more points at any time is the winner.
To begin Aces & Eights 5 Hand, everyone is dealt five cards from a standard deck of 52 playing cards. The aim of the game is to score points by taking as many cards as possible to be equal to, or one more than, the number of points shown on their selected card. Play passes clockwise around the table with each player taking it in turn to either take or pass the current card - if they choose to take it they must then place another card faced up on top of it. When both players have either taken or passed the current card (or if there isn't enough cards left in the deck for both players), whoever has played the highest value card takes all four cards and sets them aside - these become their scoring pile for that particular round; scoring one point for every card which matches its rank (e.g., an Ace scores 1 point). If two players have played two identical ranked cards then both players score a point for that particular round (this is known as 'jousting').
When one side has no more valid cards remaining (i.e., all four cards played down), that player automatically loses that particular round no matter what their rank might be and play passes onto their opponent who will now start their turn by taking either: one) The current face up Card OR two) One from their hand plus The Current face up Card......... If you Take One from your hand PLUS The Current face-up Card.............. you can only Set Two Cards down on your turn........cards Set down in this fashion can be any combination EXCEPT all Two Cards of Same Rank! After playing your two Set-down Cards............. you Draw One replacement Card from stock--- Play then proceeds as before continuing anticlockwise around Table! If at any time you are able To go out without Drawing----you show your hand & Winner of Hand is proclaimed--Player with most valuable hand WINS game!!!!!
The first player whose score reaches 7 or more at any time is declared winner - alternatively if playing with 3 or 4 people, play until somebody has won twice consecutively
